Our Founder and Veterinarians
Founder
Our founder, managing trustee and chief veterinarian is Dr Sarungbam Yaiphabi Devi - Devi to her friends.
Dr Devi was born and brought up in the rural state of Manipur and qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon in Assam but she knew that it was the city she wanted to work in and the cities’ street dogs she wanted to care for.
So Devi arrived in Delhi and started work firstly at a private practise, then as a volunteer for a charitable organisation, finally setting up her own organisation - Animal India Trust.
With Dr Devi’s determination to help as many street dogs as possible, the organisation has grown from its humble beginnings in a tiny cellar in one of the most congested parts of Delhi, to the current clinic in Lajpat Nagar. The present clinic includes operating theatre, treatment area, office, staff accommodation, kennels and cages. There is even outside space for the dogs to roam and play and a nearby park for walking.
Veterinarians
Currently we have one other veterinarian, Dr Pathak.
Dr Pathak comes from Delhi, having qualified as a veterinary surgeon at G B Pant University in Uttaranchal.
Dr Pathak previously worked in Agra and now works at the Animal India Trust clinic in Lajpat Nagar performing a large proportion of the sterilisation work as well as treating out patients.
